The world, as we have always known it, has changed rapidly since February 2020. Businesses have been forced to close, restrictions are in place just about everywhere you turn, and choices that were once easy for you to make are now questioned and second-guessed by yourself and those around you. These are hard times, and we at Jefferson Dental Care get it.
As many people wonder when life will get back to “normal,” and what the “new normal” will even look like, simple things like having a beautiful smile may seem out of reach.
Millions of Americans choose to whiten their teeth each year in the United States. Professional teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic procedure done anywhere because it is affordable, quick, painless, and offers immediate results. However, with dental procedures still being limited to “essential services,” many people are trying to figure out how they can whiten their teeth at home. Over the counter teeth whitening strips, gels, and tubes of toothpaste may seem appealing to many because they offer a convenient method, but they also come with disadvantages that you need to know.
First, OTC whitening products are not as strong as professional whitening products. They cannot offer the same results that your dentist can provide because they are not designed to do so. Dentists can use extremely concentrated whitening gels or lights that provide astonishing results.
Also, OTC whitening products do not prevent user error. Leaving whitening strips on for too long, accidentally getting whitening gel on your gums, or using a whitening product incorrectly are the leading causes of at-home whitening fails.
OTC whitening products are not meant for anyone who has any sort of dental issues. Cavities, gum disease, gum recession, and infection can all be aggravated or worsened by over the counter whitening products.
At Jefferson Dental Care, we want to partner with you to achieve the smile you dream about. Your dental health is our highest priority.
