Halloween is a time when everyone enjoys the fun of dressing up and putting on a costume to disguise who they are for a night of tricks and treats! It’s so cute seeing all the little kids walking around in their favorite costumes. We love it!
There is one thing that can’t be disguised at any time of the year, gum disease. There are things you can do to try to make your mouth and teeth look good. Lipstick on a woman or whitening your teeth can make your smile look great, but there could be lots of scary things lurking in your mouth that leads to gum disease.
Gum disease in your mouth is hard for you and others to see. However, there are common signs of gum disease that are important to look for. In the earliest stage of gum disease (called gingivitis) you will have an infection of your tissues around your teeth. This is caused by a buildup of plaque. You may also experience red and swollen gums and they may bleed easily. Bad breath can also be a sign of gum disease.
As gum disease progresses your gums will more noticeably recede and you may have pockets between your gums and teeth. Advanced periodontitis your tissue and bone that support your teeth are lost and this can cause you to lose teeth.
